IVC Detroit International Visitor Bruno Ripoche, journalist from France, enjoyed his program in Detroit, his stay at the Courtyard Marriott (downtown Detroit) and IVC’s Meet & Greet at the Courtyard Marriott held on the evening of October 14th. Judge Craig Strong of Michigan’s 3rd Judicial Circuit Court made a special trip to greet Mr. Ripoche as Judge Strong was attending 2 other receptions the same evening. The Courtyard Marriott provided a delicious array of complimentary appetizers for IVC members. It was another successful networking event benefiting both members and our esteemed visitor from the Brittany area of France.
IVC Detroit provides members & guests unique international experiences
On Tuesday night October 5th IVC Detroiters celebrated the culture & cuisine of Vietnam and met business entrepreneurs from Gaza. During the cultural dinner at Đà Nẵng Restaurant in Clawson, chef/proprietor Kim Dao-Waldis wearing her traditional (Ao dai) red & gold wedding dress welcomed guests with her story of childhood in Đà Nẵng (a major port city in the south central coast of Vietnam) and how she and her family were able to escape Vietnam and come to the US during the 1970’s. Kim & restaurant staff prepared delicious authentic Vietnamese cuisine including: Imperial tolls; a steamed chicken salad, boneless short ribs with vermicelli, Vietnamese crepes and molded mango/orange & lemon sorbets. IVC Detroit was pleased to introduce a delegation of 10 emerging business leaders from Palestine. It was a full house and certainly a unique experience observing the State Department Escort Officer translating Kim’s Vietnamese experiences into Arabic for the visitor delegation. Today, IVC Detroit member Ed Bartley- Sales Director, Bonnier Technology Group, Bonnier Media Corporation writes in an email: “Thank you for a great evening!! Our guests had a very good time, and the Vietnamese food was outstanding. We’re all going back soon to sample the rest of the fare. Looking forward to the next IVC event / dinner.”
On Wednesday, October 13 IVC Detroit will welcome a journalist from France, participating in a U.S. Department of State International Visitor Leadership Program focused on “Current Political Issues” for a 4-day visit to Detroit.
The goal of the delegate’s program is to understand the issues surrounding the upcoming mid term elections and the role the media plays in defining the issues for American citizens. The program will focus on the major issues affecting voters in this election- the economy, immigration, the environment, and foreign affairs.
The delegate, Mr. Ripoche, is a Foreign Policy Journalist for Ouest France a regional newspaper, which is the most widely circulated daily in France. He specializes in U.S. politics and achieved national recognition in 2009 for his work on the world rush on farmlands and in 2008 for his coverage of the U.S. presidential election.
There is an opportunity for our members & friends to meet the French delegate at a social/cultural exchange event on:
